Homework Week 6

Due Monday 27th August 2018

This week we have very little homework set.

  1. Read!!!!  Please make sure you have read at least 5 times for the week for at least 30 minutes each time. You need to bring your reading log to school on Monday and it must be signed by a parent or guardian.
  2. Prepare for your Literacy circle sharing on Monday. This means you must read the allocated section and complete the tasks for 2 different roles (as set in your group). You need to write this up properly in your homework book, not a scribble done on Monday morning.
  3. Prepare for Classmasters debates and speeches.
  4. Practice your multiplication facts.
  5. If you have outstanding Hotmaths tasks please use this week to catch up.

This term we will be working on our Class Masters presentations (see this link). Each week you should work a little on your speeches. Make sure you are in contact with your debate partners so that your debate shows teamwork and your arguments follow on from each other. In the week your speech is due, your Class Masters homework is your highest priority. If you are finding it difficult to complete your tasks, make sure you come and see me as early as you can and we’ll modify your homework as needed.

This week you need to do:

  1. Your Class Masters debate & prepared speech
  2. Reading log signed 5 times for the week
  3. Literature Circles reading and preparation
  4. 100 Word Challenge (Set yourself a writing goal at the start)

Homework Week 1

Week 1 (Due Monday 23rd August)

Welcome back to school. I hope you had a great break. A big welcome to Charlie – it’s great to have you back after your term away.

Homework for this week is:

  1. Reading 5 times for the week (remember to record pages read, time read and ask your parent or another adult to sign it for you)
  2. Practising your multiplication facts. Make sure that you have a goal to spend some time each day doing a little practice.
  3. Preparing for your Classmasters debates and speeches. You should have these details in your diary but it is posted on the blog for you to check. Please let me know if you find any errors.

You have until Wednesday 20th June to complete this week’s homework – and this week is the last week of homework for the term.

This week you need to complete:

  2. Maths- Log onto Hotmaths- some of you have an allocated multiplication task. If not, continue with your multiplication facts practice.

 When you systematically classify/categorise things, you can use this algorithm to make it rigorous and productive:

Classify: group similar items together based on similar traits

  1. Name items to sort into categories
  2. Decide on possible categories based on possible differences

  5. Tell what you know now (new idea) or could do with the information (new item)

Rise from the Ashes

 

In Australia we have seen many Bushfire disasters which can make us fear fire.

In contrast, the Aboriginal people have used fire as a tool to manage their lands for many years.

 

Goal Reflection:

Explain how our attitude and dealing with fire as an inclusive community could help to improve both the management of our land and the management of bushfires as a natural disaster.

This week we have another ‘guest’ prompt sent in from the students in Yr.6 at Eaton International School,  Persiaran Puncak Utama, Jade Hills, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia – quite an address, isn’t it!

They have sent a picture & some questions they thought you could think about when composing your 100 words.

Questions to think about:

  • What is under the spikes?
  • What if it came alive?
  • What if it ruled the world? Would there be a brighter future for us all?

 

c)      For maths this week please spend some time each day working on your current multiplication facts or ‘times tables’. This might mean making cards and getting someone to test you, getting someone to ask you in the car or walking the dog, write up the tables and out them up around the house or teach someone else! If you know your automatic facts for the 1-12 multiplication facts, work on your 13’s, 15’s or even 75’s. What else can you learn?
